Volvo Group Belgium's Ghent facility is one of the largest truck assembly plants in Europe. As a cornerstone of Volvo's global production system, the site manufactures a full range of heavy-duty trucks, including the company's new line of electric trucks.
The core business is the end-to-end assembly of commercial trucks. This includes cab welding and painting, chassis assembly, fitting of the driveline (engine, gearbox), final assembly of all components, and rigorous quality testing before the vehicles are shipped to customers across Europe and beyond.
They are a final assembly Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). They work with a vast network of Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers who provide the components that are assembled into the finished trucks.
Highly automated assembly lines with advanced robotics for welding and painting. A sophisticated logistics system for just-in-time and just-in-sequence parts delivery. Unique capability to assemble both traditional diesel and fully electric trucks on the same production line, demonstrating high operational flexibility.
The plant manufactures trucks for various sectors, including Transportation, Logistics, Construction, and Municipal Services.
As an assembly plant, they work with a vast range of finished and semi-finished components, including steel chassis and cab parts, aluminum components, plastics, glass, electronics, engines, and batteries.
Not applicable from an external perspective. They use advanced internal PLM and manufacturing execution systems.
While primary R&D is centered in Sweden, the Ghent plant has a strong process engineering team focused on manufacturing technology, automation, and optimizing the assembly process for new models, particularly for the complex introduction of electric vehicles.
